Winter is a great time of year for engagement shoots because the sun is low in the sky for most of the day. Starting engagement shoots at 2pm always feels odd for this San Luis Obispo wedding photographer because the rest of the year requires start times around 5:30pm. Victoria emailed me earlier in week and expressed her concern about having to wear “frumpy” winter clothes during her engagement pictures. As it turned out, we were blessed with incredible summer like conditions on the day of her shoot. I ended up spending most of the weekend in a t-shirt and Victoria and John were equally happy with the warm winters day. Victoria is a school teacher and John is in the cattle business. These two were a pleasure to photograph and I can’t wait for their wedding next summer!

San Luis Obispo has many barn wedding venues. I like to use some of the oldest ones as backdrops during engagement sessions.
Johnson Ranch is one of my favorite places in San Luis Obispo to shoot as the trails give easy access to a ton of gorgeous picture opportunities.
