Sarah and Matt – Wedding

It’s the Monday after Sarah and Matt’s ceremony and I’m still trying to wrap my brain around the feelings I had as I photographed their wedding day. Each week I show up to a wedding and try to figure out not only the couple, but their families, friends and the circumstances that brought them all together at this special place and time. Then I try to tell their story through the pictures I make.

Sarah and Matt had a story. And it didn’t take me long to figure it out. Sarah and Matt have been together for many years. Their wedding day was a celebration of their commitment to each other and their decision to continue to live their lives together. On this day, Love was victorious. On top of Love’s victory cake, stood Sarah and Matt. This was why we were there. This is why so many tears flowed throughout the day. This celebration for Love’s victory caught me off guard. And this is why I pulled over as I drove away and took a moment; with damp eyes and a full heart.

Sara and Matt invited me over for breakfast the next morning and I brought with me a video (see bottom of post) and some photographs. Walking back behind the big yellow Flying Caballos Ranch house, I heard lots of soft laughter. Although the band had long since left, the fire had burned to embers and the stars went to sleep on the other side of the earth, the celebration was still going on. Not a noisy rambunctious, hooting and hollering type of celebration, but a celebration nonetheless. Matt and Sarah were taking their time and enjoying the company of each of their friends and family. The same friends and family that had supported them in their journey to this place. The same friends and family that had helped build their wedding day. No one wanted to come down from the wedding day ‘high’ as Love had won.  It was an amazing thing to witness. We watched the video below and looked through the pictures from the day.

And the tears came tumbling down.

The Flying Caballos Ranch wedding venues is one of the most unique wedding venues I have ever had the chance to photograph. The Flying Caballos Ranch is located south of San Luis Obispo, at the start of Edna Valley. I highly suggest you take a look at this amazing wedding location.
