Bluephoto, San Luis Obispo Wedding Photographer | Santa Barbara bio picture

Hi, I'm Jonathan Roberts and I started Bluephoto 6 years ago. I've shot over 250 weddings and have loved every minute of it *(almost every minute....the naked reception guy freaked me out...and there was the crazy dog that bit Michael, the groom...)!

And a little about me:

I am living my dream. Not too many people can say that. I have the cutest wife ever. Michelle never stops smiling and she is simply a joy to wake up to each day. I am incredibly thankful for our happy little boy who spends way more time giggling than crying, a wife who is the love of my life and a job I look forward to each day. Marriage for me has been a dream come true and I am thrilled to be a part of each couple's wedding day as they make the commitment to be together for the rest of their lives.

And to be a little less sappy - I also love wine, cooking, cyclingnews.com, figuring out near impossible lighting setups, single speed mountain bikes, chips and salsa, brie with crackers and caramelized onions, the perfect margarita with just a touch of salt, and knowing when I click the shutter that I captured a perfect moment.

Shoot me an email or give me a call we'll figure out a time to grab a cup of coffee.

Your Wedding Day Bluephoto Interview

November, 2008

Jonathan Roberts, owner of Bluephoto tells Your Wedding Day that there are three main reasons couples seek him out for their wedding photography. “A. They love my images,” he says, “B. My prices are usually lower than others; and C. They think I will be a cool guy to have around on their wedding day!”

We can confirm that all of the above reasons to work with Jonathan are true, especially the part about him being a very cool guy!

Jonathan decided to go into photography during college. “I started by taking a black and white film class in high school and continued signing up for classes during junior college as well,” he says. “I ended up with a degree from Calpoly (California Polytechnic Institute) which included four Minors, one of which was photography.”

He began to focus on landscape, contributing frequently to the Natural History Museums annual calendars with images showcasing California’s Central Coast area. “Nature photography taught me how to respond and seek out natural light,” he says.

Eventually, nature photography also became a significant asset as he moved into the area of weddings. “My wedding photography is influenced by the beautiful spots my couples choose for their weddings,” he says. “I am lucky to have a foundation in landscape photography because I am able to incorporate that into my wedding shots.”

Jonathan also brings a lot of other innovative ideas to his wedding photos. “I’m a bit of a geek when it comes to the high-tech part of photography,” he says with a laugh. “I use remote strobe/flash techniques to create gorgeous light even when the days are drab or the sun has gone down.” He explains that modern remote/lighting equipment has allowed him to take his creativity to a whole new level. “This is an exciting time to be a photographer!”

You’ll be very excited about photography too when you meet Jonathan, and learn about his services. “I offer a complete service and album package,” he explains, “and I include an engagement shoot with every package.”

One of Jonathan’s other “services” is that he’s always available to his couples. “I am VERY available to them. I often e-mail or call back within minutes of a couple’s inquiries.”

Jonathan is available for destination weddings too. Although his main territory is the Central Coast; south to Santa Barbara; and north to Big Sur and Monterey, he also shoots weddings in the Napa and Lake Tahoe areas, and has now branched out nationwide, including New York City.

When we asked him about his inspiration, Jonathan says it is in part his wife, their strong marriage, and their new baby. “So, every time I sit down and talk to an engaged couple, I am genuinely excited for them to have the same wonderful experience that I am living now,” he says. He is a romantic and a true “people person.”

Jonathan concluded this interview by again stressing his “C” item again, one of the reasons couples seek him out. “I am a people person!” he says. “I love meeting new couples, and I find their excitement towards each other to be a source of continued inspiration in my life.” He says each wedding is a reminder of his own happy marriage. “My job consistently reminds me of the most important things in my own life!”

With Jonathan’s photos creating happy memories of your wedding, you’ll be constantly reminded of the important things in your life too, especially your wedding day.
