Rock n’ Roll at Santa Margarita Ranch

Last month I had the opportunity to do a really fun Rock n’ Roll wedding shoot at Santa Margarita Ranch. Santa Margarita Ranch (located 10 miles north of San Luis Obispo) is a wonderful piece of property filled with trains, oaks trees, old buildings, grassy fields and an awesome barn. Ali and Debbie from Bowman Nichols Event Consulting created the concept behind the shoot and pulled in the appropriate vendors who all ended up contributing in their own unique way. Special thanks to our awesome couple Josh and Natalie, as you two were an absolute joy to photograph!

Description of the shoot written by: Ali Bowman & Debbie Nichols of Bowman Nichols Event Consulting.

“In putting together this shoot, we wanted to highlight the beauty of California’s Central Coast and the historic and rustic elegance of the Santa Margarita Ranch.  The history of the venue speaks for itself with the timeless treasures of the ranch still intact. A signature of the Central Coast, the oak trees on the Ranch are plentiful and provide a breathtaking backdrop in addition to the quirky and eclectic antique locomotive trains, Wells Fargo bridal cottage, wagons, and more.  With our inspiration coming from an array of bright colors combined with vintage and non-traditional elements, there was no better spot for our photo shoot!

Knowing the magic that Jonathan Roberts of Bluephoto can create with his photographic artistry, we were looking to craft a rustic feel pulling inspiration from the color palate and style of the Carlisle linen pattern from BBJ Linen.

Natalie wore a vintage inspired, short lace gown by Alfred Angelo and western style cowboy boots.  To tie in the theme of color we chose large non-traditional jewelry embellished in turquoise with red and black accents to play up to her rockabilly groom.   The bouquet was a beautiful unique arrangement adorned with billy balls, kangaroo paw, and succulents pulling in the bright contrasting color.

The tabletop was custom built with wrought iron legs using a recycled door that once hung in the historic home situated on the Ranch property.  The talented Katie Noonan of Noonan’s Wine Country Designs ran with the theme and used a vintage milk crate carrier filled with various sized mason jars as well as green Orchids and moss to flatter the backdrop.

Leslie Huft of Sinfully Divine Cake Creations created a colorful array of cheesecakes in yellow and turquoise for our dessert selection on a table constructed from wine barrels and wood.  The vibrant colored cheesecakes decorated with floral accents brought fun and flair to our candelabrum cake stand.

As a coordinating team at Bowman Nichols Event Consulting we enjoy getting to know our couples and letting their true personalities shine though on their wedding day.  We feel like that is what we captured in this shoot with the images portraying a very rock n’ roll, but at the same time vintage, country style.  When our inspiration led us away from convention, we found that we could capture love in it truest form.
